In this experiment I have taken 4x4 wire grid and made an open ended barrel, approximately 4' across and 4' high. Then I used the chipper/shredder to masticate a great pile of long piled and dry bamboo and twig and branch discards. As the sarcophagus pile of discards was being chipped into a pile of tiny twigs, chips and dried leaves, the de-constructed pile had deep towards it's center a deeply colored pile of pill bug and worm loam. The pile is now more-or-less upside down with loam nestled high and in the center of the chips. It smells clean and seems very dry . This pile is mostly for condensing yard waste effectively but I do hope to grow some healthy soil conditioner in 6 months or so with out having to do much pitchfork work.
Here is my question: has anybody here composted bamboo? Are there any tricks or tips you would like to share?

Re: Composting Bamboo...
Fri, September 18, 2009 - 11:09 AMI would guess that anything involving woody material like bamboo would compost faster if it had high-nitrogen material like manure or even urine added to it.
