Ha ha I was just thinking that... the compost I just left in Hawaii has been around 110 degrees for the past week thanks to all the wonderful nitrogen and carbohydrated from all the coffee cherry leftover from harvest. We have been harvesting a lot of pumpkins around there. So, I was thinking... why not figure out some way to dig a pit in the compost in the morning, place food, dig up at the end of the day, and sup.
Ok, that might be a little gross, or a lot if we were using manure. But I am thinking, how can We harvest the heat from our piles in interesting and useful ways?
Thanks for the input,
M

Re: Compost oven
Mon, November 24, 2008 - 5:36 AMI was just told about an article on someone who was using a massive compost/biomass pile to heat his home by running pipes through the pile which then heated water to run through his house. Aprently the also collected the methane to run his stove.
I'll try and get the source on that one. -

Re: Compost oven
Mon, November 24, 2008 - 10:25 AM110 degrees isn't hot enough to cook anything. You're better off just buying or making a solar oven, it would cook a meal in less than 2 hours.
