hello,
i am new to this tribe and new to composting.....
i am fortunate enough to be moving into a home with an enormous space for a garden. because i live smack in the middle of mother nature unwanted pesties will be an issue if i have an exposed compost pile.
i am in the market for one of those cool supped up composter's but I have no idea which one to choose. if anyone has suggestions i would greatly appreciate it!
thanks a bunch!

Wed, June 4, 2008 - 8:47 PMThose pigs are SUPER cute, but I'm wondering if this would be too small for Tastypixie. Sounds like a big garden, so probably lots of material to go in. I'm wondering if a pit or trenching would be the way to go. I don't know how to do this, but there are many in our tribe knowledgeable in this area. -

Re: Composting How To's.....
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 8:55 PMI can't leave an exposed pile either, and I have a tiny yard. I accumulate about a gallon at a time, then dig a hole about 18" deep in the yard and bury it. Takes about 5 minutes, starting with the cultivator to loosen the soil. I bury in a different spot every time, which means it's spread around.
Weeds and dead stuff are dried out in a pile(this does not attract pests), then compacted in a 5-gal bucket, then buried with kitchen waste.
This year, my flowers are 10-50% larger than last year in the areas that got the most compost over the last year. Daisies that grew to less than three feet tall last year are over 4 feet now, and they'll bloom for another 2-3 months.
I can't be more thrilled with the results, after 3 years, of burying my compost. I put out less trash than any of my neighbors, and have a garden they all admire.
