soil too clay

My garden soil is very heavy and clay-like, even where the most compost is buried. I saw on an eco-show that dryer lint can be composted, will this achieve the same effect as adding peat moss? I'm trying to avoid buying any. Is there any other 'trash' that I could compost that would add the same consistency as peat moss? Newspaper? Soaked cardboard?

We have clay soil and it's just taken adding compost year after year to finally have nice garden soil. But if you don't want to wait, you might try hair. Seriously. Go to a salon and ask if they'll bag up clean hair clippings for you. Or see if you can get clean pet hair from a groomer. It's supposed to be fantastic for the soil and work much like peat moss in making it fluffier.
